Proof of address and the certificado de vida y residencia

Two different documents. The certificado de vida y residencia is a police certificate that you live at a Paraguayan address. To get it you need a proof of address there: a utility bill or a lease. We get the certificate with you for $50 on top of its cost, and if you have no address yet, we can arrange one.

Why you need a Paraguayan address

Banks

Banks and fintechs check your address when you open an account, and again later.

Exchanges and fintechs

Many ask for a document that shows your address, such as a bank statement or a utility bill.

Your cédula

Identificaciones asks for the police certificate of your address (certificado de vida y residencia). The police need a utility bill or a lease at that address, and witnesses.

Mail and cards

Receive documents, bank cards and parcels while you're abroad.

You don't have to live in Paraguay full time to keep residency, so a managed address is a common setup. On temporary residency, Migraciones may cancel the status after more than one continuous year outside Paraguay, unless it has authorized the absence (Ley 6984/2022, Art. 55). Plan to enter at least once every 12 months.

Proof of address is not the certificado de vida y residencia

No. The certificado de vida y residencia is a police certificate that you're alive and live at a Paraguayan address, and Identificaciones asks for it with your cédula. To get it, you take the local police station a proof of address, a utility bill or a lease at that address, and witnesses with copies of their cédulas. Practitioners say it's accepted for about 3 months, depending on the department. Ask us what you need for yours.

How it works

From your choice to documents in hand.

  1. Pick your option

The police certificate, a rental contract, a mailbox, or a formal lease for strict checks.

  2. We set it up

We prepare the contract, register the address and set up the utility bills.

  3. You get your documents

Digital copies as soon as they're ready, originals if you need them.

  4. Use it

Give your proof of address to the police for your certificate, and to banks and exchanges. With the mailbox, your mail keeps coming all year.

Which one is right for you?

  • The police certificate: your cédula needs it.
  • Mailbox: you travel and need an address plus your mail handled.
  • Rental contract: a proof of address for the police certificate.
  • Verifiable address: a bank or exchange wants a formal lease.
