Temporary residency for up to 2 years, your cédula, and us at every appointment.

The Mercosur route

Citizens of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru can apply on the Mercosur route instead. Migraciones grants it for two years, not extendable, and its fee is lower. On that route the cédula comes once you have permanent residency, which you apply for from 90 days before your temporary card expires.

How it works, step by step

What happens between your WhatsApp message and your cédula.

  1. Get your documents ready

For Paraguay temporary residency you need your passport, a birth certificate from the country where you were born, and a criminal record check, which must come from the country you live in if you've lived outside your birth country for the last 3 years. The birth certificate and the criminal record check each need an apostille and a Spanish translation. One residency agency's guide treats the criminal record check as valid for 6 months from issue. Send us photos and we review them within 48 hours.

  2. First trip: file your application

We go with you to Migraciones and the police for your certificates, photos and fingerprints.

  3. While it's processed

How long depends on your documents and on Migraciones. We follow your file and keep you posted on WhatsApp.

  4. Last trip: collect your residency and cédula

Once Migraciones approves your file, we book the appointment at Identificaciones and go with you.

Which trip option fits you

  • 3 trips: file, come back for a check, then collect.
  • 2 trips: file, then collect. We handle the step in between without you.
  • 1 trip: you stay in Paraguay until your cédula is ready, which takes months. Good if you want time to settle in.

Keeping your residency

Under Ley 6984/2022, temporary residency is granted for up to 2 years and can be extended for the same length; on the Mercosur route it's two years, not extendable. On temporary residency, Migraciones may cancel the status after more than one continuous year outside Paraguay, unless it has authorized the absence (Ley 6984/2022, Art. 55). Plan to enter at least once every 12 months. Permanent residency is a later, separate application: under DNM Resolution 407/2026, Migraciones checks your economic solvency in one of twelve categories, with no published minimum amount, and it can deny the application.
